Meeting the Sisters in Brad’s Zone (September 12, 2005)

We were eating a late lunch after our massages when about six sister missionaries came walking through the restaurant.  I called them over and they all came running: “Are you Elder Royal’s parents?”  They were like a bunch of crazy, giggling school girls - so funny.  Of the six, only one was American.  Three of them were Filipino, one from Fiji and one from Samoa.  They were all so animated, so loud, so excited that I just had to run upstairs to our room to get the cameras.  I told them we brought chocolate for them, and one sister from Tonga got on her knees and started saying: “Oh, thank you, thank you!”  They were a riot.  We invited the sisters to sit with us while we ate, but they said they would wait for us outside the restaurant.  We finished our meal early (it was a buffet and I wasn’t near being finished, but this was too good to pass up), I went upstairs and returned with chocolate and the cameras.  We had a nice visit.  They all had so many good things to say about Brad, and had all kinds of questions about our family.  It was really fun to take pictures, get them on videotape, and enjoy the moment.  We visited for about an hour.  One of them, a sister from St. George, said she will be serving until August - and added: “But I am looking forward to hanging out with Elder Royal at BYU when I get back.”  The sister from Fiji said she was grateful that “Elder Royal taught us how to play football.”  She said he told her it was okay to rough up the other sisters during the game - so she went after the sister from Tonga.  They all were so chatty, sweet, loving, and fun.  I was sad that we could not visit longer.  I would have loved to have spent more time with them, but they had to get other things done.  What a great little bonus that encounter was for us.
